Mads Mengel’s sharply observed feature debut The Guest (Gæsten) is selected for this year’s 60thedition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The film is to receive its world premiere as part of the Crystal Globe Competition. Simon Bennebjerg, Josephine Park and Danish leading lady Trine Dyrholm share the major roles in this drama about a family trying to hold it together when everything starts to fall apart.

LevelK Joins Betty Balloon Ahead of Cartoon Movie Presentation
Copenhagen-based international sales and aggregation house LevelK has secured worldwide rights to Puk Grasten’s upcoming pre-school animated feature and TV series Betty Balloon. The agreement - finalised between LevelK CEO Tine Klint and the film’s main producer Regner Grasten - was reached just ahead of the project’s work-in-progress presentation at Cartoon Movie in Bordeaux. A theatrical release of the animated feature is scheduled for October 2026 in Denmark, with Danish TV2 set to premiere the series.

Andana Films boards Berlinale Panorama-selected The Other Side of the Sun
French international sales company Andana Films has boarded Tawfik Sabouni’s powerful The Other Side of the Sun which will receive its world premiere as part of the Panorama section of this year’s Berlinale. In this haunting and powerful documentary, the director returned to the Syrian capital of Damascus in the immediate aftermath of the Assad regime’s collapse. There he met four fellow former detainees of the notorious former Saidnaya prison. Through bold re-enactments inside the infamous prison itself, the documentary turns memory into testimony, revealing resilience and an unbroken will to survive.

Irene Kaltenborn’s The Mother Age selected for CPH:DOX’s Next:Wave competition
The Mother Age, from Norwegian artist and filmmaker Irene Kaltenborn, will receive its world premiere at this year’s CPH:DOX, where it screens in the festival’s Next:Wave competition for innovative films by emerging talents. Inspired by Ursula K Le Guin and other feminist thinkers, the film examines alternative origins of human culture, inviting audiences on a richly philosophical and sensory journey of (re)discovery.

Der französische Weltvertrieb Andana Films hat sich Tawfik Sabounis beeindruckenden Film „The Other Side of the Sun” gesichert, der im Rahmen der Panorama-Sektion der diesjährigen Berlinale Weltpremiere feiern wird. In diesem eindringlichen und zutiefst menschlichen Dokumentarfilm kehrt der Regisseur unmittelbar nach dem Zusammenbruch des Assad-Regimes in die syrische Hauptstadt Damaskus zurück. Dort trifft er vier ehemalige Mitgefangene des berüchtigten Gefängnisses von Saidnaya. Mittels eindrücklicher Reenactments innerhalb der einstigen Gefängnismauern verwandelt der Dokumentarfilm Erinnerungen in Zeugnisse und erzählt von Widerstandsfähigkeit und ungebrochenem Überlebenswillen.
