Milano invited to Rome
Christina Vandekerckhove’s feature debut Milano is to receive its international premiere as part of this year's Alice nella Città programme in Rome (16-27 October).
Christina, as well as the film’s main actors Matteo Simoni and Basil Wheatley, and composer Stijn Ylode de Gezelle will be in Rome on 18 October to attend the film’s festival premiere and are available for interviews* and photo shoots.
MILANO by Christina Vandekerckhove
Short synopsis: Alain raises his 12-year-old deaf son Milano by himself, determined to give him a better life than he ever had. Milano is often left home alone and seeks the company of Renée, a woman who seems to have it all. The father-son relationship comes under pressure when Milano wants to meet his biological mother. All is about to change.
Main cast: Matteo Simoni (Alain), Basil Wheatley (Milano), Alexia Depicker (Renée), Thibaud Dooms (Jeffrey), Taeke Nicolaï (Amanda), Jo Deseure (Susanne).
About the director: After graduating from KASK film school in Ghent, Christina Vandekerckhove worked as a freelance director, mainly for television. Rabot (2017), her first feature-length documentary was about the relocation of residents from the Rabot towers in Ghent, scheduled to disappear from the cityscape. The film was shown at several festivals such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and broke all documentary admission records in Belgium. She gained her first fiction experience with Mia, a short film that toured numerous festivals. Milano is her feature-length debut.
About the production: Milano is produced by Jan De Clercq and Annemie Degryse for Lunanime, in co-production with Bastide Films in the Netherlands, and Dragons Films and VRT in Belgium.
