Loveable to compete for Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary
Lilja Ingolfsdottir's feature debut Loveable (Elskling) is to receive its world premiere, as part of the Crystal Globe Main Competition, at this year’s 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Synopsis: Loveable follows Maria, a 40-year-old mother attempting to balance parenthood and a demanding career while her second husband, Sigmund, is frequently away for his work. As the strain of competing needs takes its toll, their marriage begins to unravel and she is forced to confront her deepest fears.

As the strain of competing needs takes its toll, their marriage begins to unravel. Despite Maria’s desperate efforts to salvage their relationship, Sigmund eventually informs her of his desire for a divorce, forcing her to confront her deepest fears. This revelation propels her into a torrent of grief, anger, and unconscious memories from her own past.
Loveable serves as a multilayered character study, portraying a woman in crisis who ultimately gains self-awareness. It explores contemporary notions of romance, equality within relationships, and the empowerment of womanhood.
About the director: A graduate from both the London Film School and the Film and Television School of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), Lilja Ingolfsdottir also holds a Bachelor in literary science from the University of Oslo. She is a first amanuensis teaching filmmaking at the Norwegian Film School. Lilja has written and directed more than 20 short and medium-length films, including Neglect (2010) and What We Fear (2022), that went to numerous fesKvals. What We Fear ulKmately lead Ingolfsdottir to make her feature debut, Loveable. Presented as a project, Loveable won the main prize for the best upcoming Nordic project at the Finnish Film Affair showcase as part of the Helsinki Film Fest.
About the producer: Thomas Robsahm is one of the most prolific film producers in Norway. He is also a director. He produced three films directed by Joachim Trier: Louder Than Bombs (Cannes 2015), Thelma (Norway’s 2017 Oscar entry), and the Oscar nominated The Worst Person in the World (which got Renate Reinsve win the Best Actress Award in Cannes 2021). He also produced Hope (Berlinale 2020) which made it to the Oscars shortlisted in 2021. Currently, he is in producKon of Dancing Queen in Hollywood, the sequel to the 2023 Berlinale Crystal Bear nominated hit Dancing Queen.
As a director, Robsahm’s credits include the crime drama Svarte pantere (1992) and the soccer documentary Myggen (1996). His 1999 comedy S.O.S. received the Amanda Award for best Norwegian film. His latest documentary a-ha The Movie won the audience award at Tribeca in 2021. He is a member of the Academy of MoKon Picture Arts and Sciences.
