UTA signs with The Playmaker to handle international sales of Locarno Piazza Grande thriller Sew Torn

Freddy Macdonald's debut feature Sew Torn, which had its successful world premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March, will be launched for sales by The Playmaker at its international Premiere at this year's Locarno Film Festival.

Sew Torn is the feature film debut of writer-director Freddy Macdonald, following his critically acclaimed short film of the same title SEW TORN, which was acquired by Fox Searchlight Pictures and received an Oscar-qualifying theatrical release.

The film is a layered thriller/dark comedy exploring the intricate tapestry of human decision-making. The Playmaker team will launch international sales of Sew Torn at the the Locarno Film Festival where it will have a Piazza Grande premiere screening on Saturday 10 August 10. ​ 

Short Synopsis: Barbara Duggen (Eve Connolly), The Mobile Seamstress, is struggling to keep her fabric shop alive. After a botched sewing appointment sets her on a quest to replace her client’s button, she stumbles upon a drug deal gone bad. Faced with downed motorcyclists, guns, and a briefcase, Barbara is completely torn. She is forced to pick between three choices: commit the perfect crime, call the police, or drive away.

About the director: Freddy Macdonald (23) is a Student Academy Award winner, and the youngest Directing Fellow ever accepted to the AFI Conservatory. His AFI admission film, the Sew Torn proof of concept short, was acquired by Searchlight Pictures. It received an Oscar-qualifying theatrical release nationwide alongside Ready Or Not. Freddy's AFI thesis film, Shedding Angels, won a Student Academy Award and was shortlisted for a student BAFTA. Freddy also directed for music videos for three-time Grammy winner Fantastic Negrito, his performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and 3 viral documentaries following hardware hacker Joe Grand. Freddy is represented by UTA.Macdonald wrote the screenplay for Sew Torn together with his father, Fred Macdonald.

The film is a Swiss-US production by Sew Torn, LLC (USA) in co-production with ORISONO (CH), Barry Navidi Productions (USA).
