TrustNordisk takes on Petter Næss’s political satire No Comment ahead of International Premiere
TrustNordisk has picked up international sales rights for acclaimed director Petter Næss’s political satire No Comment (Ingen kommentar). The announcement was made by TrustNordisk’s Managing Director Susan Wendt alongside producers Cornelia Boysen, Synnøve Hørsdal and Anne Bergseng of Oslo-based Maipo Film, as the film prepares to compete at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival’s coveted International Competition lineup.
"We are happy to reunite with both talented director Peter Næss and production company Maipo on this satirical comedy-drama and can't wait to present No Comment to international audiences," says Susan Wendt, Managing Director at TrustNordisk.
In No Comment, Prime Minister Alma Solvik learns that her husband has been caught red-handed in a stock market scandal. Accused of insider trading and conflicts of interest, he becomes the perfect scapegoat in a high-stakes political circus. With her embattled spin doctor Karianne Moen by her side, Alma orchestrates a bold strategy to protect her and her party’s reputation.
“This film takes you behind the scenes of what the will to power really means: no limits, no scruples, no hesitation to swallow endless compromises or throw anyone under the bus,” explains Næss. “In essence, No Comment is a family and marital drama, only played out on a national stage. And at its core it is brutally simple: “My job matters more than yours, and you are not going to screw this up for me!” Næss’s previous work includes such titles as the Oscar nominated Elling, Gone With The Woman and Nothing To Laugh About.
No Comment stars Laila Goody (I Belong, Valkyrien (TV), State of Happiness (TV)), Pia Tjelta (Don’t Call Me Mama, Buddy, Amnesia, Norsemen (TV)) and Anders Baasmo (Kon-Tiki, The King’s Choice, Welcome to Norway).
The film, which premiered domestically in August this year to great reviews and audience acclaim, is set to celebrate its international premiere on 18 November at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it will screen in the prestigious International Competition. The director will be joined on the Black Carpet by stars Laila Goody and Pia Tjelta (who earlier this year won Best Actress at Karlovy Vary for Don’t Call Me Mama) alongside producers Cornelia Boysen and Synnøve Hørsdal.
Adding to the film’s growing momentum, the Göteborg Film Festival has also tapped No Comment for its upcoming Focus section, which explores the shifting nature of truth, how it’s portrayed, distorted and dissected both on screen and in society.
No Comment is written by Ståle Stein Berg, directed by Petter Næss and produced by Anne Bergseng, Cornelia Boysen and Synnøve Hørsdal for Maipo Film in co-production with Oslo FilmFond and with support from The Norwegian Film Institute. Nordic distribution through Nordisk Film Distribution, TrustNordisk handles international sales.
