Milano geselecteerd voor Alice nella Città festival in Rome

Christina Vandekerckhove's speelfilmdebuut Milano is uitgenodigd voor competitie op het Alice nella Città festival in Rome (16-27 oktober).

Christina, beide hoofdrolspelers van de film, Matteo Simoni en Basil Wheatley, en componist Stijn Ylode de Gezelle zijn op 18 oktober in Rome voor de festivalpremière van de film. Ze zijn dan ook beschikbaar voor interviews* en fotoshoots.

MILANO van Christina Vandekerckhove

Korte synopsis: Alain voedt zijn dove zoon Milano alleen op en wil hem een beter leven geven dan hij zelf ooit heeft gehad. Ondanks de beste bedoelingen worden zijn onmacht en falen zichtbaar. Milano wordt vaak aan zijn lot overgelaten, en zoekt het gezelschap op van Renée, een vrouw die alles lijkt te hebben. De vader-zoon-relatie komt onder druk te staan wanneer Milano zijn biologische moeder wil ontmoeten.

Belangrijkste cast: Matteo Simoni (Alain), Basil Wheatley (Milano), Alexia Depicker (Renée), Thibaud Dooms (Jeffrey), Taeke Nicolaï (Amanda), Jo Deseure (Susanne).

Over de regisseur: Na haar afstuderen aan de KASK filmschool in Gent werkte Christina Vandekerckhove als freelance regisseur, voornamelijk voor televisie. RABOT (2017), haar eerste lange documentaire, ging over de herhuisvesting van bewoners uit de Rabot-torens in Gent, die volgens planning uit het stadsbeeld zouden verdwijnen. De film werd vertoond op verschillende festivals zoals het International Film Festival Rotterdam, en brak alle documentaire toelatingsrecords in België. Haar eerste fictie-ervaring deed ze op met MIA, een kortfilm die langs verschillende festivals toerde. MILANO is haar speelfilmdebuut.

Over de productie: Milano is een productie van Jan De Clercq en Annemie Degryse voor Lunanime (Gent), in coproductie met Bastide Films (NL), Dragons Films (BE) en VRT (BE).

French international sales company Andana Films has boarded Tawfik Sabouni’s powerful The Other Side of the Sun which will receive its world premiere as part of the Panorama section of this year’s Berlinale. In this haunting and powerful documentary, the director returned to the Syrian capital of Damascus in the immediate aftermath of the Assad regime’s collapse. There he met four fellow former detainees of the notorious former Saidnaya prison. Through bold re-enactments inside the infamous prison itself, the documentary turns memory into testimony, revealing resilience and an unbroken will to survive.

Andana Films vertreibt Berlinale Panorama- Film „The Other Side of the Sun“

Der französische Weltvertrieb Andana Films hat sich Tawfik Sabounis beeindruckenden Film „The Other Side of the Sun” gesichert, der im Rahmen der Panorama-Sektion der diesjährigen Berlinale Weltpremiere feiern wird. In diesem eindringlichen und zutiefst menschlichen Dokumentarfilm kehrt der Regisseur unmittelbar nach dem Zusammenbruch des Assad-Regimes in die syrische Hauptstadt Damaskus zurück. Dort trifft er vier ehemalige Mitgefangene des berüchtigten Gefängnisses von Saidnaya. Mittels eindrücklicher Reenactments innerhalb der einstigen Gefängnismauern verwandelt der Dokumentarfilm Erinnerungen in Zeugnisse und erzählt von Widerstandsfähigkeit und ungebrochenem Überlebenswillen.
