LevelK acquires Mike van Diem’s Our Girls
Oscar winning director's new film to celebrate International Premiere in Warsaw
International sales and aggregation house LevelK announced the acquisition of Our Girls (Voor de meisjes). The film, directed by Oscar winning helmer Mike van Diem, is to get its international premiere as part of the Official Competition at this year’s Warsaw International Film Festival.
Based on the novel by Lykele Muus, Our Girls tells the story of two couples whose long-standing friendship fractures while vacationing in the Austrian Alps. After a tragic, near-fatal accident involves their teenage daughters, the parents descend into a savage, desperate struggle to protect their children, exposing long-buried secrets.
Starring Thekla Reuten, Fedja van Huêt, Noortje Herlaar and Valentijn Dhaenens, Our Girls is produced by Amsterdam based Kepler Film, in co-production with Nuts & Bolts Film Company (NL), Schubert (AT) and A Private View (BE).
A director and scriptwriter, van Diem (1959) is best known for his Oscar‑winning feature Character (Karakter, 1997), which received the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film in 1998. He studied at the Netherlands Film and Television Academy, where his graduation film Alaska (1989) became the first student film ever to win a Golden Calf, the Dutch Oscar equivalent, and also earned a Student Academy Award. After the global success of Karakter, he returned to feature filmmaking with the whimsical romantic comedy The Surprise (2015) and the internationally oriented dramedy Tulipani, Love, Honour and a Bicycle (2017).
Our Girls is to receive its world premiere as opening film of this year's Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht.
