Clorofilla added to Karlovy Vary's Proxima Competition

Ivana Gloria's debut feature Clorofilla is to receive its international premiere at this year’s 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where the film is part of the Proxima Competition.

Joining Ivana Gloria and her producer Cinzia Salvioli are Sarah Short (main actress), Michele Ragno (actor), Marco Borromei, (scriptwriter), Chiara Dainese (editor) and Silvia Orengo (sound editor).

Short synopsis: Maia feels an inexplicable attraction toward trees, flowers, and the very essence of the natural world. Together, she and the shy Teo navigate the transition from human form to becoming one with nature.

Extended synopsis: In the moonlit woods, a young girl named Maia dashes through the underbrush, her heart racing in sync with the rhythm of the earth and the broken branches beneath her feet. The night air is thick with anticipation as she seeks refuge—the only safe place—within the arms of nature itself.

Now grown into a woman, her hair and blood naturally green, Maia feels an inexplicable attraction towards the trees, flowers, and the very essence of the natural world.

Teo, a shy young man with secrets hidden in his greenhouse, becomes her companion.

Together, Maia and Teo navigate the transition from human form to becoming one with nature— an understanding forged through friendship, attraction, and a love that transcends both flesh and foliage.

About the producer: Cinzia Salvioli founded Albedo Production in 2021 as an independent film production company with a focus on creating compelling, author-driven works for both Italian and international audiences. Albedo Production’s inaugural project was a film adaptation of Giacomo Puccini’s opera Gianni Schicchi which premiered at the 2021 Torino Film Festival and was subsequently broadcast on Rai Uno.

To celebrate Luciano Pavarotti’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Albedo Productions organized special screenings, including restored, previously unseen footage. Additionally, the company produced the short film Luciano Pavarotti, the Star which opened the Rome Film Festival in 2022.

Other notable Albedo productions are the documentaries Costume, Arte nel Cinema, a documentary about the unique Italian art of costume design for film, and Artificial Hell in which a young screenwriter challenges Artificial Intelligence by creating synthetic digital images inspired by Dante’s Inferno.
